By any chance if you are a member of any group in Facebook, your personal data might be inappropriately accessed by more than 100 app developers.

For example, on November 2019 Facebook announced data leak which stated more than 100 third-party app developers might have accessed and retained user information including users’ names and profile pictures in an illegal manner.

Top 5 Open-Source Web Browsers

In April 2018, Facebook modified its groups API that allowed third-party app developers to access info in the group.

Later on, Facebook has announced that despite the changes, some a hundred app developers were able to eavesdrop on the group members’ information since April 2018.

Facebook hasn’t disclosed the names of these 100 app developers but says that these were “primarily social media management and video streaming apps.”

Facebook has also reached out to those developers and has asked them to delete any user data that they have retained post the changes in its Groups API. But still Facebook hasn’t disclosed the number of users impacted by this data leak.

Facebook data leaks also occurred many times in the past like an exposed server on the web was found leaking the data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users and the Cambridge Analytica accessed private messages of over 87 million Facebook users. It is about time that Facebook takes some concrete steps to safeguard user data.

The post Be aware of Facebook Data Leak first appeared on Intellope.
